COURSE OBJECTIVES

This workshop aims to help you to:
- understand the concept of Electronic Information Literacy
- familiarize with Boolean operators used by search engines
- apply Boolean logic, set theory in searching
- use proximity operators and field codes in search directories and search engines
- understand various ways to increase recall and precision, yet cut down noise in your search results
- conduct various searches and select appropriate search tools for your search
- learn various search tips and effective techniques in making your search more fruitful.

3. Boolean Logic and Boolean Operators

Applying and using Boolean operators in searching on the Net.

4. What are proximity operators?

Applying proximity operators in search guides/directories/engines.

5. What is field searching?

Applying field searching in search guides/directories engines

6. General and specialized subject guides/directories/engines
7. Meta search engines

8. Search Strategy and search tips

PREREQUISITES
Those who have used search engines/search guides to conduct searches at work or at home and would like to master more advanced tools & techniques

Any information professionals, such as reference librarians or Internet searchers, who would like to learn power search techniques to enhance their skills in searching.
